FURTHER SUGGESTED HOTELS

It is a refined town with a particular attention to culture. Before booking it is better to decide what to do, but there are also inviting last-minute offers and hotels prepare tracks and visits studied to discover the area and also the local gastronomy.

Art and culture From an artistic view the town has a beautiful Art Academy, the famous church of Sant’Apollinare in Classe, the town centre where the remains of Dante Alighieri rest. Ravenna was the capital city of Italy for three times: during the Western Roman Empire, Theodoric the Geat and the Byzantine Empire. There are many basilicas and baptisteries with mosaics of the 5th and 6th century, a part of the UNESCO World Heritage.

Then the museums: the Museo d’Arte della città di Ravenna hosts permanent collections, the Museo Nazionale where you can see excavations of Roman and Byzantine eras, the Museo Arcivescovile, with the wonderful chapel of Sant’Andrea (declared part of the UNESCO World Heritage), the Museo Dantesco, the mausoleum of Galla Placidia, the Museo del Risorgimento –that describes the historical actions of Giuseppe Mazzini’s and Giuseppe Garibaldi’s militants to unite Italy-, the Teodorico park, the Planetarium, the Giardino delle Erbe Dimenticate (The Lost Herbs Garden)… to make a complete list is impossible.

Please, get information in your hotel: very often the keepers organize guided visits and excursions.
